Music

For me, and I'm sure it's the same for almost everyone on this rocky little planet, the best kind of music is the kind of music that moves me, emotionally. For example, I am currently listening to the Final Fantasy S Generations CD (I'm sure some of you have heard of it, or maybe even heard it), and there is a particularly beautiful rendition of the Final Fantasy 7 World Music song, made complete with a wonderful orchestral accompaniment.
Listening to songs such as these, filled with beauty, awe, and wonder, sends chills through my body and fills me with...well, longing would be the best word here. Longing for what? Purpose, I suppose. For Love, and Beauty, for Hope and for Joy, and though the song grants me none of these, the longing feelings that it gives me makes me happy in a way, makes me feel melancholy in one way, but in another also makes me feel, dare I say, more alive. Songs like these, filled with bittersweet beauty are truly wonderful.
Of course, I goes without saying that other music, those that fill one with other emotions, are equally so. Songs that fill young men with rage and energy, with bands like Dropkick Murphys and Slayer, the kinds of songs that start mosh pits or fill the soundtracks of "high-octane" action movies, that make you want to thrash around wildly or start fights.
There are the songs that rock you to your core, songs of such sublimity and sounding so epic, such as Red Sonja, orchestral pieces that overwhelm one with so much raw music, like an organized chaos, hundreds of instruments and musical pieces coming together in musical harmony, resulting in an experience too big for words.
Songs that make you want to stand up and start dancing like mad, or, for the shy white dudes out there like myself, do the "white-boy shuffle" as I deem it. (The "white-boy shuffle" is, simply enough, when a white guy, who doesn't really know how to dance, bobs his head - and occasionally his upper body - in rhythm to the beat, mostly accomplished in (now smoke-free, dammit!) bars.)
Songs whose lyrics and a rhythm like a heartbeat that fill you with animal Cravings and Lust, the music that grinds men and women together in a Sexual dance, bodies shaking and moving in an ocean of sweaty bodies (though this description sounds more disgusting than sexy...), or songs of Sensuality and Dance, of Romance and Love, of Latin spice and Spanish rhythm...
